What is Alopecia Areata ? |
| |
Alopecia areata (al-oh-PEE-shah air-ee-AH-tah) is a highly unpredictable, autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. This common but very challenging and capricious disease affects approximately 1.7 percent of the population. Due to the fact that much of the public is still not familiar with alopecia areata, the disease can have a profound impact on one's life and functional status, both at work and at school. In alopecia areata, the affected hair follicles are mistakenly attacked by a person's own immune system (white blood cells), resulting in the arrest of the hair growth stage. Alopecia areata usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth bald patche on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). What are the triggers or causes for alopecia areata ? |
| |
It's not yet perfectly known what causes alopecia areata. For some reason, follicles stop producing visible hair, resulting in smooth bald patches that can appear overnight. Researchers are trying to determine what triggers the disease, and whether it's within the body or from environmental factors. There are no symptoms before bald patches appear, and no diagnostic tests. However, there may be some hereditary factors. About 20% of people with alopecia areata have a family member who is also affected. Atopy, a genetic condition that predisposes people to hay fever, eczema, asthma and other autoimmune diseases, is often associated with alopecia areata.below are few common factors which are known as a trigger for Alopecia areata.

What is Ayurveda ? What is alopecia areata as per ayurveda ? |

What is the Origin of Ayurveda? |
| |
Widely regarded as the oldest form of healthcare in the world, Ayurveda is an intricate medical system that originated in India thousands of years ago. The fundamentals of Ayurveda can be found in Hindu scriptures called the Vedas the ancient Indian books of wisdom. The Rig Veda, which was written over 6,000 years ago, contains a series of prescriptions for different types of ailment.
|
 |
What are the Basic Principles of Ayurveda? |
| |
Ayurveda is based on the premise that the universe is made up of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether. These elements are represented in humans by three "doshas", or energies: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When any of the doshas accumulate in the body beyond the desirable limit, the body loses its balance. Every individual has a distinct balance, and our health and well-being depend on getting a right balance of the three doshas ("tridoshas"). Ayurveda suggests specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines to help individuals reduce the excess dosha. A healthy person, as defined in Sushrut Samhita, one of the primary books on Ayurveda, is "he whose doshas are in balance, appetite is good, all tissues of the body and all natural urges are functioning properly, and whose mind, body and spirit are cheerful..."
