Pediculosis

It is also known as lice infestation. Unhygienic conditions often results in lice infestation. The people with long hair are more prone to lice infestation. The pediculosis causes itching and abrasions on the scalp of the skin. It is one of the most common contagious childhood diseases. Head lice are totally non-discriminating and can infest people of any lifestyle, age, race, or socio-economic status. Lice can multiply and spread quickly from one host to another.

Symptoms of head lice can include:

having an itchy scalp
seeing red bumps on your child's scalp and neck
seeing live lice moving around on your child's head
finding nits (lice eggs), which are tiny white oval shaped specks that are attached to the sides of hairs

Head Lice Home Remedies

If you don't want to use a chemical on your child's head, the most effective treatment that doesn't involve using any products at all simply involves removing the nits and live lice with a lice comb and/or tweezers. It can be time consuming to do this and you may have to repeat the procedure for several days to make sure you get them all, but this is likely the best thing to do. You still have to take the time to comb out all of the nits.
Mix neem leaves, basil leaves and 8-10 cloves and grind to make a thick paste using beer.
Mix 10-15 drops of tea tree oil into a bottle of normal shampoo and shampoo your hair
Application of Neem oil twice in a week is very popular to prevent reccurence of lice.

Prevention of lice

Lice are very easy to prevent but difficult to treat. The most effective prevention is maintaining good hygiene.

1

Do not share personal items like combs, brushes, clips, hair bands, hats, scarves, coats, brushes or towels.

2

Never try on hats or any headwear while at a shop. This way you put yourself at risk of contracting lice.

3

Never touch head to head with any person.

4

Wash your all the clothes after you visit to a hair dresser.

5

Check your child's hair behind and above the ears and on the back of the neck carefully every day. If nits are found, start using head louse/lice home remedy immediately.

6

If nits are found - thoroughly wash bedding linen, pillows, towels, coats, scarves, hats, brushes, combs, etc. in hot water with tea tree oil or dettol added.

7

To prevent the spread of head lice, if any family member is infected, treat all members of the family at the same time.

8

When you notice that lice is spreading in school, you should consider trimming your son's hair to a shorter lenght (less than 1 cm). The lice cannot find suitable environment in short hair.

These remedies take time to show a visible change but are effective for some people. The best point concerning a home remedy is that you have many options and, if you think that a particular ingredient does not suit you, you can try an alternative. You should give each remedy at least a week before trying another.
